The pachyderm was rescued yesterday along Indo-Bhutan border by forest officials with help from police, CRPF and district administration.
According to forest officials, the animal has serious cut marks on its body. It was injured by villagers on August 9 near Coramore tea estate when it strayed out of its habitat, they said, adding that NGO Green Valley Forest and Wildlife Protection Society have decided to monitor the condition of the injured elephant.
Meanwhile, some enthusiastic villagers have named the elephant 'Ghajni' and have offered prayers in temples for its well being.
