Northeast India Christian Council (NEICC) appeals for peace in NC Hills

Shillong, Jul 8 : The executive Committee of North East India Christian Council (NEICC), which met here today, has taken serious note of the ethnic conflict in North Cachar Hill district of Assam.

A statement issued here by NEICC secretary NS Phawa said over the past one month many innocent people lost their lives, many were displaced and property damaged due to the ethnic conflict between the two communities.

Mr Phawa appealed to the both communities to desist from escalating violence and bloodshed as it does not provide any solution, rather they sould sit together and bring an amicable solution.

Mr Phawa also urged the Assam government, including district administration, to work for restoring normalcy not simply by reinforcement of security forces but to go into social, economic and cultural dimension for bringing long lasting social peace and harmony.
