Sources from the Ministry of Power said that out of 495 un-electrified and de-electrified villages in Manipur, 93 villages were covered under electrification till date since the inception of the Yojana. Out of 727 electrified villages in Manipur, 69 villages were covered intensive electrification under the scheme.
Target for electrification of rural households in these four districts were 76,267 including 49,188 below poverty line (BPL) families. So far, 3,356 BPL families were provided electrification under the scheme. As such, Manipur achieved 4.4 per cent of the target of 76,267.
As for Asom, only 56, 033 rural households out of 14, 14,828 were electrified and the percentage of achievement was 4.0 only. Meghalaya achieved 1.7 per cent covering 3,143 households out of the target of 1,88,648.
Arunachal Pradesh covered 49 households out of the target of 76,407 and secured 0.01 per cent achievement. There was no any achievement of household coverage under RGGVY in the States of Mizoram having the target of 44,334, Nagaland 1,42,992, Sikkim 28,166 and Tripura 2,28,759.
The Ministry of Power already sanctioned a total of Rs 15, 576.69 lakh for implementation of RGGVY in the four districts namely- Chandel ( Rs 4,671.10 lakh), Senapati (Rs 5,997.43 lakh), Tamenglong(Rs 1,736.37 lakh) and Ukhrul (Rs 3,171.70 lakh).
Of these, a sum of Rs 5, 732.09 lakh, Rs 2,706.84 lakh for Chandel, Rs 1, 650.27 lakh for Senapati , Rs 503.80 lakh for Tamenglong and Rs 871.18 lakh for Ukhrul were so far released.
Under RGGVY, number of un-electrified and de-electrified villages to be electrified and number of electrified villages to be intensified in Chandel district were 133 and 191 respectively. Number of rural households to be electrified in the district was 15,663 including 10,645 BPL families.
In the district, 84 villages electrified, 49 electrified villages intensified and 2,787 BPL families were provided electricity under the scheme.
Number of villages to be electrified and electrified villages to be intensified in Tamenglong District was 53 and 79 respectively; of which nine villages and 20 villages respectively were achieved. Under the scheme, 569 BPL families in the district were provided electricity out of the target of 9,473 households including 3,802 BPL families.
Senapati and Ukhrul had no achieved any target so far. Target of electrification and intensification of electrified villages in Senapati were 251 villages and 334 villages respectively and in Ukhrul 58 villages and 123 villages.
Senapati had 34,645 rural households including 22,566 BPL families and Ukhrul 16, 486 rural households including 12, 175 BPL families.
The Government of India launched the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) in April 2005 by merging all ongoing schemes. Under the programme 90 per cent grant was provided by Government of India and 10 per cent as loan by Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd (REC) to the State Governments. REC is the nodal agency for the programme.
The RGGVY aims at electrification all villages and habitations, providing access to electricity to all rural households and providing electricity Connection to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families free of charge.
