BSF IG ( Assam and Meghalaya Frontier) Prithvi Raj today said BDR troops along with some villagers trespassed into Pyrdiwah area in East Khasi Hills district and started planting trees there last week.
As the BSF protested the move, there was a troop build-up by the BDR on the other side which led the Indian border force to initiate"tactical preparations", he said.
The BSF lodged a protest with the BDR when its patrol party was confronted in the area.
A flag meeting was held at the Pyrdiwah between the two border forces today where they agreed to maintain status quo at the area.
Terming the incident as a"localised one", Prithvi Raj said"The matter has been taken up at the higher level and it will subside in a day or two".
Allaying apprehensions of the villagers, he said"A new commander had joined the BDR sector. It might be lack of knowledge on his part and feedbacks from local Bangladesh villagers that might have propelled him to take the move".
