Parents knew about their children's AP journey: Report

IMPHAL: The 25 children "rescued" by Kolkata Police at the Howrah station on Wednesday were going to Andhra Pradesh for education with the consent of their parents and guardians, according to a police report.

On Wednesday, the children hailing from the remote Kaibi village in Manipur's Senapati district, were found in an Andhra Pradesh-bound train at the station. However, police in Kolkata had said three "pastors" accompanying the kids, failed to produce the required documents.

"According to a report submitted by one of the officers, who went to the village, the parents knew about their children's journey," said a senior police officer on Friday.

"As of now, it appears that there is no foul play like trafficking. But things will be clearer when we quiz the pastors. We have also sent our report to the government," the police officer said.

L S Salony, a member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), disclosed that the children may come back to Manipur on Saturday. "We have learnt that a Kolkata-based NGO is trying to bring the kids back to Manipur. Maybe, they will return by tomorrow," he added.
