President Patil to visit Arunachal and Assam

President Pratibha Patil is taking the ultra-modern flight of Business Boeing Jet (BBJ) specially procured for travel by VVIPs off the Palam airport on her maiden visit to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam Wednesday.

This will be her first visit to Arunachal Pradesh since she assumed office. Arunachal Pradesh is the state about which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in January 2008 while visiting the state that “the sun kisses India first in Arunachal Pradesh.

It is our land of the rising sun.”

After reaching Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, today the President will deliver the convocation address at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST). The foundation stone of the Institute was laid by the then President Giani Zail Singh in 1984.

Smt. Patil shall also visit Tawang, where she will go to the Monastery as also the War Memorial. She will also visit troops at Kibithu and address a Sainik Sammelan.

Wrapping up the three-day tour on April 4, Smt Patil will also attend the closing session of the Diamond Jubilee of the Gauhati High Court. The President will return to New Delhi on April 4.
