2,041 in fray for Phase II of elections

NEW DELHI: A total of 2,041 people, including 121 women, are in the fray for Phase II of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 23 in 12 States and on April 22 in Manipur.
This phase will cover the highest number of 141 constituencies in the five-phase elections. In Andhra and Orissa, the Assembly elections for the remaining constituencies — 140 and 77 — will be covered. The Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka has the highest number of 37 candidates followed by 36 in Pune in Maharashtra. Baramati (Maharashtra) has the highest number of women candidates — seven.
Among the national parties, the BSP has fielded the highest number of 122 candidates followed by the Congress 117 and the BJP 113.
The States to be covered are: A.P. - 20 Lok Sabha seats, Assam-11, Bihar-13, Goa-2, J & K-1, Karnataka-17, M.P.-13, Maharashtra-25, Manipur-1, Orissa-11, Tripura-2, U.P.-17 and Jharkhand-8.
