Tripura budget session reduced for polls

AGARTALA, March 7 – The budget session of the Tripura legislative assembly has been shortened by about 14 days in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections slated for April 23 in the state, reports PTI.

Speaker Ramendra Debnath told the House today that the decision to end the session on March 12 instead of on March 26 was taken by the business advisory committee at its meeting yesterday following an unanimous recommendation.

Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath (Cong) moved a resolution yesterday to cut short the session and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar supported the move. Sarkar said there was no alternative but to curtail the assembly session as the party leaders have to go for poll campaigning.
