The College of Advanced Technical Studies (CATS) affiliated to the Sikkim Manipal University, opened in Dhubri last Sunday.
The need for a centre of technical studies has been felt for a long time in the district and its inauguration has fulfilled many hopes, said Bimal Oswal, a prominent citizen of the district.
Presiding over the inaugural meeting, academician Girindra Nath Goswami hoped that the college would fulfil the need of higher technical studies.
One of the key office-bearers of CATS, Manas Bhattacharjee, said as of now, CATS would offer courses like BSc in Information Technology, BCA and post-graduate diploma in Computer Application.
Science Day
Digboi Science Society observed National Science Day, 2009 at Bhimpathar recently with students taking the lead, in association with Bhimpathar Bapuji High School. Golap Kalita, president of Digboi Science Society, hoisted the flag and explained the significance of the day.
Later, an open meeting was chaired by Kalita. He joined representatives of all sections of the people in paying a floral tribute to renowned scientist C.V. Raman.
Pradip Kumar Khound, head of the electronics department and Arun Sarma, lecturer of the department of Physics of Digboi College, spoke on the Life and Achievements of C.V. Raman and Superstition and its Ill Impacts on Society respectively. Certificates of proficiency were awarded to all participants.

The Institute of Chartered and Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) has opened post-graduate diploma courses in Global Strategic Management, Financial Engineering, Performance Management and Industrial Marketing.
The Global Strategic Management diploma is designed to give students and executives a global perspective on different concepts and tools in strategic management in order to make them effective managers while the financial engineering diploma is beneficial for students to take opportunities in the field of finance. The institute has a branch in Guwahati.
