Completion of the Trans-Arunachal Highways is also being taken up during the 11th Plan period (2007-12), which continues to lay emphasis on the removal of existing deficiencies in the National Highways System.
The SARDP for NE, covering 8,887 km, comprises of two phases. Phase A, covering 2,454 km, has been approved for implementation and Phase B covering 6,433 km has been approved for preparation of DPRs.
The estimates for 951 km length at an amount of Rs 2,577 crore have so far been approved under SARDP-NE. During 2008-09, 52.30 km length of road has been completed and an expenditure of Rs184 crore has been incurred so far.
The expanded programme for National Highway Development (NHDP) apart from completion of North South-East West corridors, envisages six-laning of 6,500 km, four-laning of 12,109 kms and upgrading of 20,000 kms of national highways, besides initiating work in 1,000 kms of expressways over the next five years.
The bulk of the highway programme is proposed to be undertaken through PPPs. The NHDP programme envisages an investment of about Rs 2,36,247 crores over the next six years.
