Guwahati, March 11 : Hosts Assam have set up the women’s final clash with strong opponents Manipur in the East Zone Handball Championship under way at Nehru Stadium here.
The Assam women today overcame their Jharkhand counterparts 13-11 to make it to the final while Manipur thrashed Nagaland 10-1 in the semi-final. The final will be played tomorrow. The third place playoff between Jharkhand and Nagaland is also scheduled for tomorrow.
On their way to the semi-final, Assam defeated Bihar 9-7 and drubbed Nagaland 7-4 in pool A encounters. Manipur, on the other hand, tamed Jharkhand 12-4 and West Bengal 14-5 in pool B.
In the men’s courts, Assam will play Manipur and Jharkhand will meet Bihar in the semi-finals tomorrow.
Assam finished pool A runners-up after settling for a 15-15 draw this morning while Manipur emerged unbeaten pool B toppers routing Bihar 26-18.
Earlier on Monday, Jharkhand defeated Tripura 29-9 and Nagaland 24-10 in pool A and in pool B, Bihar got the better of Orissa 23-21 and West Bengal 27-20.
