Arunachal forum in fray

Itanagar, March 9 : The newly formed Arunachal Democratic Alliance will contest the parliamentary elections slated for April 16 and the Assembly polls expected to be held later this year.
This was disclosed today by the chairman of the interim committee of the alliance, Aath Tacho Kabak, who is also the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), one of the constituents of the alliance.
The other constituents of the political forum that came into existence on February 18 are Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA), Arunachal Congress (AC), Janata Dal (United), Lok Bharati (LB) and the Lok Janashakti Party (LJP).
The forum formed a 14-member interim committee on Friday to finalise its candidates for Arunachal East and Arunachal West parliamentary constituencies.
The parliamentary election results are likely to have a bearing on the Assembly elections.
“Our forum’s main poll plank will be to root out the Congress government that failed to provide good and transparent governance in the state. The names of the two candidates for the parliamentary polls will be announced soon,” Kabak said.
“Though ours is a new political forum, we have four national parties, the NCP, the JD(U), the LB and the LJP, besides the PPA and the AC, the two regional parties in our fold. The mode of seat sharing will be decided at our next meeting involving the presidents of all the six parties. The forum has a point to prove in the coming Assembly elections,” he added.
The 60-member Arunachal Assembly will go to polls tentatively in October this year.
The politics in the state is mainly influenced by the party or parties in the corridors of power at the Centre.
The ruling Congress in the state is grappling with “inner squables” and factionalism and a change of guard at the Centre could turn the tables on the ruling party in the state.
The 60-member House has 42 Congress MLAs, 14 Independents and two legislators each from the NCP and the Arunachal Congress.
