Kohima identified as Solar City

KOHIMA, Feb 16 : Based on the guidelines and identification by the State government, Kohima, along with 14 other cities in the country has been identified as a Solar City.

Official sources here today said, the objective to develop an identified city as Solar City is to reduce a minimum of 10 per cent of its projected demand of conventional energy at the end of five years in the master plans through energy efficiency measures and generation from renewable energy installations.

These cities will have a population between 0.5 to five million with relaxation given to special category States including Northeast.

The cities identified for the master plan included Agra, Rajkot, Moradabad, Gandhinagar, Nagpur, Kalyan-Dombiwali, Indore, Imphal, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Coimbatore, Vishakapattanam and Thane, informed Renewable Energy minister (state) Vilas Muttemwar while replying to a written question by I Rajagopal in the Lok Sabha yesterday, sources added.
