The clash broke out between the CPI-M activists and Maoist-backed tribals over the death of CPI-M leader Nandalal Pal. He was shot dead by suspected tribals Sunday at Lalgarh village of West Midnapore district, about 200 km from here.
'CPI-M activists took out a rally with Pal's body to mourn his death Monday morning in Ramgarh area of Lalgarh. Local tribals backed by Maoists stopped them midway. This led to a clash between the two groups,' state police inspector general (law and order) Raj Kanojia told IANS by telephone.
'According to our records, four people have been seriously injured so far. But we are yet to ascertain if they are CPI-M activists or tribals,' he said.
District police superintendent R.K. Singh said three of the four injured suffered bullet injuries.
