CBR Forum partners’ meeting concludes

Dimapur, February 15 : The ten partners of the Community Based Rehabilitation Forum (CBRF) from North East India held a partners’ meeting on February 12 and 13.

The meeting was facilitated by CBRF staff, K Kempiah, Sr. Programme Officer, B Namghaklung Kabui, programme officer, and Alwyn, accountant. The Forum is a funding agency for ‘Community based Rehabilitation of People with Disability’ programmes across India with its secretariat in Bangalore.

On the second day’s meeting, Miss Mingthunglo, TOT (teachers) of SSA department, and Dr. Joyce Angami, project manager at The Nossal Institute for Global Health, participated in the programme as observers.

Various issues concerning needs, health, education, livelihood, empowerment of ‘people with disability’ were discussed. Ela, director of Prodigals’ Home, also took a session on ‘inclusion of people with disability in HIV/AIDS initiatives in Nagaland’.

It has been observed that North East India is behind other parts of India at all levels in response to problems of people with disabilities. The meeting was hosted by Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur, at AIDA Centre.

Currently Prodigals’ Home and Akimbo Society are partnering in this programme and other three organisations from Dimapur – Guardian Angel, People in Need Foundation and Development Association of Nagaland – are likely to be new partners from 2009.

The next NEI partners meeting will be hosted by the Zoram Entu Pawl Organization, Aizwal, in 2010.
