More troops deployed along Tripura border

AGARTALA, Dec 28 : Additional BSF troops were deployed along the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura keeping in mind general elections in Bangladesh slated for December 29.

Additional companies of BSF jawans were flown here to strengthen security in the Tripura border as part of full proof security measures along the border. But it was not known how many additional forces were deployed.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who met with top BSF officials at Salbagan, Frontier headquarters on Friday, urged them to intensify vigil to prevent attempts of infiltration and trans border crimes in the State.

Addressing the meeting of Commandants of BSF, Sarkar said there is deliberate attempts of crossing the border and committing crimes in Indian territory, so there is need of increasing efforts to prevent the attempts.

With increasing threat of terrorism from across the border, the role of BSF has become important, he said. Sarkar also appreciated the dedication of the force and discussed about ways to improve overall border management.

Shashi Prakash, Chief Secretary, DGP Pranoy Sahay, Addl DGP C Balasubramanian, and senior officials of State police were also present in the meeting.

S K Mishra, Inspector General of BSF, Tripura Frontier briefed the Chief Minister and the congregation about the operations and border management of the BSF along the 856 km-long inhospitable terrain of Indo-Bangla border.
