Dibang project beneficialin many ways: Mithi

ARZOO, Dec 28 : The Multi-Purpose Project in Dibang Basin is being taken up by the government for the development purpose of the area and the state as a whole, said Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi at Arzoo recently.
Mithi was on his way to attend the Reh Festival at Etalin when he visited Arzoo and was accompanied by local legislator Rajesh Tacho and had a brief interaction with the public of Arzoo and New Aneya.
The MP clarified on various queries, confusions and fears regarding Mega-Project put forward by the dam affected people.
The Multi-purpose project is not only concentrated to construction of big dam but along with it many developmental activities like setting up of hospitals, educational Institutions, irrigational channels for the agricultural fields and various developmental infrastructure will follow which will aid in the economic development of the area in a faster rate, he said.
Mithi further added that the Dibang Project is beneficial for the downstream areas including Assam as it has flood control system to control the flow of water of Dibang river, one of the biggest tributary of Brahmaputra which is endangering some parts of Assam.
Emphasizing his point he said that the government is not against any caste or tribe and neither is it aiming to submerge any area or locality. While citing the various examples of other states where natural resources are being tapped for the purpose of development and earning revenue, Mithi said that Arunachal Pradesh has abundant hydro-power resources that need to be harness for the benefit of the people and overall development of the state.
The MP further appealed the people to come to a consensus by holding thorough discussions among themselves and then place it before the government.
The state government will never enforce anything against the will of the people of the area, he added. He also appealed to the people for cooperation so that public hearing could be conducted in a peaceful manner.
Public hearing is a platform to place our grievances before the executing agency and the government, he said and added that the opportunity once lost will not be regain.
Mithi condemned the activities of student organization of damaging government property and blocking the highway cutting off road connectivity to Anini for many days due to which the people besides government employees had to suffer hardships and pay high prices.
He further exhorted them not to resort to any kind of violence that would damage government property and harass the government employees. He appealed them to adopt peaceful and democratic means of protest and urged them not to misguide the innocent people.
He further said that one should not politicize the issue and there should not be conflict in the society because of Pro- or Anti- Dam.
Earlier MLA Rajesh Tacho also clarified to the public and the students regarding the maga project and further tried to pacify the some sections of public and students protesting against the Dam project.
ZPM Arzoo Unti Eckru, New Aneya GB Ekipi Mimi, student representatives and others also spoke on the occasion placing the grievances and sentiments of the people of the dam affected areas. DIPRO
