Guwahati, Dec 21 : Two persons died on the spot and 23 were injured when the bus they were travelling in turned turtle at Kadamtal on National Highway 52 in Assam’s Darrang district at 9.30am today.
Police said Dilip Deka, 38, hailed from Hengarabari and Anurupa Devi, 45, was a teacher at Panbazar High School here. The driver of the Guwahati-bound bus from Tezpur lost control while giving way to a motorcycle and a goat that came in front of the vehicle.
Peace talks
Imphal, Dec 21 : Inspector-General (South), Assam Rifles, Maj. Gen. A.K. Choudhary, on Saturday expressed happiness on the return of peace in the hill areas and said any foul play by the armed groups would be severely dealt with. Altogether 19 tribal outfits had signed the ground rules on August 22. Choudhary said one more group, the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council-Lalumba), had agreed to return to the mainstream. It held the second round of talks with home department officials here on Saturday.
University
Shillong: The Education Research and Development Foundation, a private trust, on Saturday announced the setting up of the University of Science and Technology at Killing Road, 9th Mile, in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district. The chairman of the trust, M. Hoque, said a bill to set up the university was cleared by the Assembly in the last session.
Tiger reserve
Guwahati: The Assam forest department has prepared a draft cabinet memorandum to set up a tiger conservation foundation. This will help the tiger reserves in the state to get funds directly, a senior forest official said on Saturday.

Itanagar: The employees of the Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh have called off their proposed mass casual leave after the government agreed to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission from Januaray 1, home minister Jarbom Gamlin said.
