Official sources today said 35,000 bottles of 'Phensedyl' worth Rs 25 lakh were recovered yesterday, adding the items were meant to be smuggled out to Bangladesh.
''The banned cough syrups, meant to be smuggled out to Bangladesh via Tripura, were loaded in a truck from Bihar,'' Customs Superintendent (Preventive) Vijay Thapa said.
Mr Thapa said the driver and the handyman of the truck had been arrested, while a manhunt was on to nab the owner of the truck.
''Phensedyl is a very lucrative item as the price rises from Rs 50 in Tripura to around 300 in Bangladeshi currency,'' sources added.
In the past, the Centre was accused of overlooking the smuggling of Phensedyl to Bangladesh.
